Principal

Dear Mrs Menon

UNHAPPY INCIDENTS IN THE SCHOOL LIBRARY.

My friends and I have been going to the school library to do some self-study. However, we are unhappy about a few incidents which took place recently. I am writing to inform you of this incidents and I hope you will take actions to ensure that the library is a conducive environment for self-study.

There was this group of students who were rude to the librarian. They shouted at the librarian when she asked them to keep quiet. One of the boys scolded the librarian in Mandarin and he even used a few vulgarities. The librarian was angry and threatened to report him to discipline master, Miss Shin. The rest of the boys got angry and abusive when the librarian threatened them and challenged the librarian to report them all. Personally, I think that the boys should be punished for their disrespectful and rude behavior to the librarian as well as everyone else who was studying.

Some other students actually broke the rules and started sneaking food into the library when it clearly states outside that no food and drinks should be allowed in the library. They even spilled their drinks on to the table. There were ants as it was sweet drinks that they spilled. The table became sticky and it was impossible to study there. I hope that you will ensure that pupils observe cleanliness rules in the library.

There was this boy who wore his PE attire into the library. He was soaked in perspiration. This is unhealthy for him as he may catch a cold. It was an unpleasant experience for the others in the library as they was a strong smelly odour.

I hope that by writing this letter, you will take action and create a conducive environment for self-study. Daily announcements concerning behavior when in the school library might help. Peace and quiet is all we ask for as it was not always this chaotic in the library.

Yours Sincerely
Nur Lina

International Friendship Day

1. What are the relationships that are important to you within the school context?

   - To me, my friends are the most important. They are the ones who comfort me, have fun with me and they are the ones I study with and depend on for help when I am lost. I cannot see school life in Chong Boon Secondary School without all my friends. My life would be dull and lonely. Teachers and all the staff including the cleaning aunties are also important. Teachers educate me and fill me with knowledge that will stay with me forever. The rest of the staff are the ones who keep the school running and organised. Without them, Chong Boon Secondary School would not be able to keep on running.

2. What do you know about the history of your school/CCA

 - I know that my school was founded in 1994 and went through a huge make over somewhere in 2003 or 2004. Even though my school is still young, I am proud that it is the first school in Singapore to receive the niche award in Environmental Education.

3. Share a story about your school/CCA. It can be funny ones. successful ones and difficult ones.

-This year, my class took part in the Chinese New Year decorations competition. Many of us stayed back in school to decorate our class in red. Zachary and Hong Tao put in the most effort out of all of us as they spent many hours creating the tiger at the back of our classroom out of red packets. It was a great time to bond as a class. The end result was amazing. Our class was fully decorated in red and we even cleared out the mess around our tables. In the end however, we did not win first place but second. It was a disappointment but we did not regret a single second of it.

4. Have the stories you heard from your classmates changed the way you view/feel about your school?

 - When I first came to Chong Boon Secondary School, I felt very miserable as I heard that Chong Boon was a 'gangster' school. My time during the orientation camp, however, totally changed the way I viewed Chong Boon. There are a few gangsters but there are also some really nice seniors who are always there to help us. I am proud to be a Chongboonite.

PEEL - Singaporeans

Singaporeans are unique. We have a language called Singlish, we have our own way of reserving a table at the local coffee shop by placing a packet of tissue paper on the table and we have unique food. Singaporeans come in different races such as Chinese, Malays, Indians and Eurasians that live together in harmony. Singaporeans are really special people.
